During a recent visit to Indonesia, I was surprised by the country’s rapid digital transformation—instant visa issuance online and automated immigration gates at the airport. In contrast, Japan remains mired in outdated, overly bureaucratic systems rooted in a fear-driven mindset that resists change. This fear—of failure, of immigration, of losing traditional paths—has sapped Japan’s will to progress. Now, with AI driving global transformation, industries like travel must shift from low-margin, quantity-based models to value-driven strategies. Observing proactive Korean tourists and the true value behind luxury services, I realized that Japan must seize this rare moment of potential change.
